when i was about 11 or 12 i had a dream of my granddad. it was one of the first dreams i remembered. my family was supposed to go down to visit and stay on the house boat. i dreamed my grand dad came to me and told me we weren't going to spend the summer together. he also told me not to hate the ones keeping us apart that it would be for the better. then i woke up. 2 weeks later my granddad was killed in a race riot in wilmington n.c. 20 years later i found out he had throat cancer and he was about to have his mouth and throat removed. we do not know why things happen to good people. my granddad was a good man. he did not hate other races. but his death brought hate to many in and around my family. i never forgot his words though and when i had children i taught that hate comes from hate not races. to love everyone will bring blessings and not hate. my children are not prejudice. they stay away from people who hate and pray for them instead of making more hate. if you are a part of a family of hate you can break the cycle of hate. all it takes is teaching love. peace, kate
